1. George was driving to Lake Taupo from Auckland. Lake Taupo is 407 kms away from Auckland and he had to do the trip three times a week for work. Assuming there are 4 weeks in a month. How many kms did he drive in total in 1 month?
407 x 4 = 1628
400 x 4 = 1600
   7 x 4 = 28
1600 + 28 = 1628
2. Janine had 17 jars of jelly beans each with with 364 jelly beans inside. How many jelly beans did she have in total?
17 x 364 =  6188
17 x 300 = 5100
17 x   64 = 1088
5100 + 1088 = 6188
3. The temperature on Mercury is 206 degrees celsius. However the sun is 14 x that temperature. How hot is the sun?
206 x 14 = 2884
200 x 14 = 2800
   6 x 14 = 84
2800 + 84 = 2884
4. Jake had $675 to go shopping for his birthday. He shared his birthday money between himself and 2 of his friends, how much money did each of them get?

9. The class table was 600cm. The table was shared between 12 students. How many cm of the table did each student have to use? 600 X 12 = 7200
300 X 12 = 3600                                                                                                                                                                             300 X 12 = 3600                                                                                                                                                                     3600 + 3600 = 7200
10. Michael knew that to qualify for the running championships he would need to beat 13.2 seconds to run 150 meters.
Michael ran everyday for one year. How many meters did he run in total?  He will run 1800
What about only six months?He will run 9

11. Jane knew that he parents would deposit $1.50 per day in to her bank account. How much money was in her account after 3 years? 54 in 3 years

What about 12 years? and 648 in 12 years

**MY SOUND WRITING** ;) (:

This term we are studying about sound. we have been doing experiment with 2 cups and 3 types of string but you would need to have two plastic cups so you could poke a hole in the two cups and stick your string in both of the cups . “why do you have strings and two cups” ? well we are learning how sound travels through the string and end up going to the other cup which your friend or your family would have next to her or his ear so they could hear what you're saying .

Sound is a form of energy that travels through sound waves. Sound waves is not the beach wave it from how you hit something or somethings it viarte.  Sound Is really fast and goes at different speeds. sound is caused when material or an object is hit after it been hit it vibrates and it travails to your eardrums and to your brain then your brain will say I recognise that sound.

millions of different sounds can be made. sounds can be as quiet as a whisper, or as loud as a speeding train.” what exactly is sound”?. Sound is created when something vibrates in a particular way. if you hit a drum, you can hear the sound the vibration makes. you can also see the sound the vibration makes.

MY MATHS WORK

You need to add the numbers in the words together to find your answer.

A = 1,  B = 2,  C = 3, D = 4,  E = 5, F = 6,
G = 7,  H = 8,  I = 9, J = 10, K = 11, L = 12,
M = 13,  N = 14,  O = 15,   P = 16, Q = 17,
R = 18,  S = 19,  T = 20,  U = 21,  V = 22,
W = 23,  X = 24, Y = 25,  Z = 26,

Vibration - 22 + 9 + 2 + 18 + 1 + 20 + I +  15 + 14 = 102
Maths - 13 + 1 + 20 +  8 + 19 + = 61
Sound - 19 + 15 + 21 + 14 + 4 = 73
Molecule - 13 + 15 + 12 + 5 + 3 + 21 + 12 + 5 = 86
Experiment - 5 + 24 + 16 + 5 + 18 + 9 + 13 + 5 + 14 + 20 = 129
Pitch - 16 + 9 + 20  + 3 + 8 = 56
Movement 13 + 15 + 22 + 5 + 13 + 5 + 14 + 20 = 99

You need to add each number in these words and find out what they equal in numbers.

Blowing Your Own Trumpet

Blowing your own Trumpet by John Bonallack
School Journal Part 3, Number 3 1983

WALT: Read the text to extract greater meaning which we will display in our follow up activities.

Success Criteria: I can read the text to extract greater meaning which we will display in our follow up activities.

Answer the following questions in red:

What types of ideas is dad always getting?
Dad was always getting odd-ball ideas from his and family also his siblings. That’s why every time he comes home he’s in a good mood
What do you think an ‘odd-ball idea is’?
Oddball’s is like odd sculptures to make stuff and today one of his friends had gave him a odd-ball idea to make a early trumpet.
Where were ‘simple trumpets’ originally found?
It was found in tutankhamun's tomb

Why was dads trumpet making no noise to begin with?
He pressed his lips tightly together and puffed out his cheeks. A little raspberry nose came out  of the funnel, nothing else.
Why is dad making a trumpet? Who is he trying to ‘show what trumpeting is all about?
1. So the can prove that he can really make something.
2. He is trying to prove to Tiffany that he can design trumpets.
For what reason did dad decide to use a balloon to blow his trumpet?
Because when you put the balloon at the hose it’ll make noise if you push the
the funnel back in place.
What are your predictions for dads new materials he’s using to make his trumpet?
I think its cool because hes tried new too go with his new early trumpet and trying to make noise heaps of noise.
It seems that dad is doing a trial and error of different ways he could make a trumpet, do you agree with this statement? Why/why not
No because everything he tried didn't even make a long noise like more than 3 sec it just made a little squeak
